My Research and Research Activities

To me, Research Is the “Basement Behind Every Successful Programme”-a reason why I love it! I was nicknamed at age 6 “EagleEye” for being so observant in making conclusions while in class, at the football play ground, at arenas…..in my whole life!!!

Preveous Research

2005 Research Assistant with UNAIDS in Ndola-Zambia with an approach “Empowering People With HIV to Take the Lead in Challenging Discrimination and Stigma”. This opened my gates towards what research is really about.I was privilleged to meet and interact with a couple of deligates from Oxford University Centre for Education, sociomedical sciences etc. Methodologies included training in guidance and counselling of people with HIV to empower them with skills to alleviate the common notion that Once you have HIV, You are Useless!!!

2007 Research Assistant with Healthy Child Uganda. This is an NGO working in South Western Uganda adressing the high Infant mortality rates in the region. I was part of the volunteer team that studied the “Saniation, Malnutrition and Immunization Levels as risk factors for child mortality in Mbarara Region” More info is available at www.healthychilduganda.org.

2008 Researcher with Mbarara University Faculty of Science, studying “The hygienic status of raw milk in Mbarara District as a step for effective public health risk communication” There were alot of people admitted for Brucellosis, Tuberculosis as evidenced at Mbarara Regional Refferal Hospital. This led met to write a concept paper which was approved by the University Faculty. Results showed that there were un acceptably high levels of bacteria that caused the above problems. The district has since then communicated effectively through the department of agriculture and health on the dangers of taking raw milk.

Current Research Activities

Helmet use in Southwestern Uganda: There are high levels of road users (Motorists) dying due to road accidents. The most cause of death has been found to be Head injuries which could be alleviated by use of helmets. Out of 20 motorists with passengers, only 2 will be  putting on helmets. More worse, passengers NEVER put them on…Iam trying to find out why and why not………May be you can Help me find out…..Contact me.This study will be going on up to december 2009.

I can take part, help in any research that you or your friends could be practicing including project research.
